Effect of solar panel azimuth on the power generation of PV plants

The azimuth angle in the pv power plant is the angle between the actual orientation of the solar panel  and the due south (due north) direction. Under the same tilt angle, different azimuth solar square planes receive different light time and different total amount of radiation received, and the azimuth angle where the solar panel faces to receive the longest light time is usually regarded as the best azimuth angle.

When designing PV power plants in the northern hemisphere, the optimal azimuth is generally chosen to be due south, and this direction receives the longest amount of light. So the common ground power plant regardless of the terrain, after artificial correction of the layout are due south, the PV plant azimuth is also due south. Commercial and industrial distributed and household photovoltaic power plants installed on the roof, can only be installed according to the actual azimuth and tilt angle of the house, if the roof is  concrete structure roof, then the tilt angle and azimuth correction design.


  1. At the same tilt angle, when the azimuth angle is 0°, the component surface receives the maximum amount of irradiation, and as the absolute azimuth angle increases, the amount of irradiation received by the component surface decreases in numerical order, and the larger the azimuth angle, the faster the amount of irradiation decreases.
  2. With the increase of dimension, the higher the latitude, the higher the azimuth angle increases by a certain value, the greater the decrease of its unit irradiance, i.e., the slope increases in the curve; if the maximum radiation is to be obtained, the corresponding tilt angle also increases accordingly.
