Italy already has nearly twice as many new PV installations as in 2021

According to Italian state-owned energy operator GSE, Italy added 1.611 GW of installed PV capacity in the first three quarters of 2022, including 322 MW of ground-mounted plants and about 1,279 MW of distributed installations; an increase of 966 MW, or 150%, from 646 MW in 2021, with 69,096 new systems added, most of the capacity coming from 3 kW to 20 kW range.
The GSE said that Italy’s installed PV capacity by the end of September was already nearly double the overall new additions for 2021. In addition, Italy is once again a GW market in 2022, the first time since 2013.
As of September 2022, the total cumulative installed PV capacity in Italy is 24.2 GW, with 8.38 GW of ground-mounted plants and 15.83 GW of distributed plants. 12.35 GW (51%) of the industrial sector leads the total installed capacity, followed by 4.809 GW of tertiary plants with 20%, 4.417 GW of residential (18%) and 2.63GW (11%) of agricultural projects.
